The GM 84554713 is a G80 Gov-Lok locking differential for 10-bolt rear axles. It behaves like an open differential in normal driving and locks both axle shafts together when one wheel starts spinning much faster than the other, which helps in mud, snow or loose ground. It is fitted when the old carrier is worn or broken, or as an upgrade from an open unit.
